Services we offer include:
It is recommended that your newborn have his or her first checkup within the first few days after leaving the hospital. Breast-fed infants should ideally be seen in the clinic within 48-72 hours after hospital discharge. At this visit, we will check your newborn's weight, check to see how your baby is feeding, and answer any questions you may have. We will also monitor for jaundice. We have the capability to check a bilirubin in-house if needed.
We provide comprehensive wellness exams per the AAP Periodicity Schedule recommendations. This includes monitoring of growth and development, immunizations, developmental screeners, mental health screeners, labs, hearing/vision screening, etc. https://downloads.aap.org/AAP/PDF/periodicity_schedule.pdf
Vision screening is started at the age of 3, and hearing screening is started at the age of 4. These services are offered in-house with corresponding well-child visit.
We vaccinate per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended immunization schedule.
We provide allergy injections to our patients who are receiving allergy immunotherapy.
Dr. Atkins and staff are available for you and your child in time of sickness. Whether it be fever and cold symptoms, UTI, or broken bones, we will use our expertise in pediatrics to determine what is best for your child to get him or her healthy again. We provide onsite lab services (respiratory pathogen panel, CBC, electrolytes, rapid flu/strep/RSV/COVID-19, urinalysis). Our lab has contracted with Labcorp for any send out labs that cannot be performed in-house.
Dr. Atkins diagnoses and manages common childhood mental health disorders to include attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, and depression.
We offer telemedicine (video) visits for your convenience. Some examples of appropriate telemedicine visits include some rashes, some sick visits, ADHD medication follow-up, anxiety/depression follow-up, and other items as determined by your provider.
We perform simple procedures to include circumcision, laceration repair (sutures/skin glue/staples), splinting, incision and drainage of abscesses, toenail avulsion, etc.
CoBALT Clinic
Dr. Atkins and his wife, Natalie Atkins, speech-language pathologist, are happy to have received training to become a CoBALT team for southeast Arkansas. CoBALT's mission is to get the right child to the right services at the right time and place. CoBALT teams allow families quicker access to specialized developmental evaluations, which results in appropriate diagnosis and quicker referral for therapy services. The James L. Dennis Developmental Center (DDC) is the primary center in the state to conduct developmental diagnostic evaluations in the state of Arkansas. This means that many families have to wait a long time to be seen at the DDC causing a child to lose valuable time in getting access to treatment.
By becoming a CoBALT team, we hope to decrease wait times for our patients and other southeast Arkansas children for testing for autism or other developmental disorders. We hope that this will get our patients access to therapy services quicker. *Not all patients may receive a diagnosis and some may be referred for a full team autism evaluation at the DDC*
